Brian grew up in Durham and attended Southern High School. After high school, he attended Barton College and also Durham Technical Community College. He then attended Vance-Granville Community College where he received his Basic Law Enforcement training. Brian started his career with the Cary Police department in 1995. He has worked as a patrol officer and as a Traffic Safety team member. He currently is assigned to the Investigations and Family Services team as a School Resource Officer at Green Hope High School. Brian is a founding member of Hope Community Church. He has served in various ministries in the church to include nursery worker, usher, Sunday school teacher, and teen volunteer. As part of this commitment to the community, Brian serves as the Health and Safety Coordinator at Cedar Fork Elementary School and as an Assistant Varsity softball coach at Green Hope High School. Brian was nominated as a Town of Cary Employee of the Year in 2006. Brian has been married to his wife Cindy for 15 years. They have two girls named Haley and Emily. Brian is being nominated for his exemplary actions involve his students at Green Hope High School. He was nominated by his current supervisor, Sgt. Kevin Tingen. In the span of one week, Brian assisted one of his students who had been seriously injured when he was struck by a car in front of the school. Brian, who is an accident re-constructionist, was able to assist the Traffic Safety team in investigating the incident. He also went to Durham to check on the student and keep an eye on his progress. Later in the week, another one of his students became injured during a “Powder puff football game.” When Brian learned that the student’s parents and guardians were out of town and unavailable to help her, he stepped in to accompany the student to a hospital. He stayed with the student until early the next morning. He also managed to be at work on time the next morning.
