Cary Chapter Seeks Support for Officer Matt Long

The Police Benevolent Foundation and the Cary Chapter of the North Carolina Police Benevolent Association are rallying behind PBA member and fellow officer Matt Long.  Matt was recently diagnosed with cancer and will be undergoing extensive treatment in the ensuing weeks and months.    The Cary chapter hopes to alleviate the financial concerns for Matt and his family as he progresses towards a clean bill of health.

Matt started his law enforcement career with the Washington DC Metro Police Department and later worked for the Mesa Arizona Police Department before coming to the Town of Cary as an officer in 2004.  Matt is currently assigned to the IMPACT team.   In 2007, he was recognized (read story) as the Crisis Intervention Team Officer of the Year for the Cary Police Department by the National Alliance on Mental Health-Wake County Chapter.  Matt is originally from Maryland and has an Associate degree in criminal justice from Prince Georges County Community College.  He currently resides with his wife and children in Fuquay Varina.

An account has been established under the Police Benevolent Foundation entitled the ‘Matt Long Fund’.  Contributions to this fund can be made at any Wachovia bank in Cary.  In addition, the PBF has set up an online donation form for contributions with a credit card.

The Police Benevolent Foundation is also taking donations via text messaging.  You can help Matt by texting the phrase ‘COPS LONG’ to 85944.   A $10 donation will be made to the fund through the contributor’s cell phone bill.

The Cary Chapter is asking everyone to please pass this information along to friends and family and to keep Matt and his family in your thoughts and prayers.
