The Police Benevolent Foundation’s efforts prove to be a huge success in aiding the family of fallen Trumann Police
Officer Jonathan Schmidt

The Police Benevolent Foundation, Inc. and the Arkansas Division of the Southern States PBA banded together with two local Arkansas communities on Monday, April 18th to help raise funds for the family of a fallen Truman police officer.   Officer Jonathan Schmidt of the Trumann Police Department was shot and killed about 11:30 P.M. on Tuesday, April 12th during a traffic stop.  Fundraisers in honor of Officer Schmidt took place at the Wal-Mart locations in both Jonesboro and Trumann, Arkansas on Monday, April 18th.

News teams from WMC-TV, KAIT-TV, The Jonesboro Radio Group and Eastern Arkansas Broadcasters were on hand all day long broadcasting from both locations and encouraging local citizens to come out and make a donation in honor of a fallen hero.  Schmidt leaves behind a wife and three children.  The Police Benevolent Foundation was able to raise over $65,000 at the Wal-Mart fundraisers, through online donations and via text-to-give donations during the event.

The PBF is still accepting donations to the “Police Benevolent Foundation’s Jonathan Schmidt Memorial Fund” at area Regions Banks.  Donations can also be made through the Police Benevolent Foundation's website at here or by texting the phrase COPS SCHMIDT to 85944.  A $10 donation will be made through your cell phone bill.  All donations made to this memorial fund are tax-deductible, and 100% of the funds will go to Officer Jonathan Schmidt’s family.
