Ripley Mississippi Comes to the Aid of a Fallen Officer

(December 14, 2010) -- On Friday, December 10, 2010 the Police Benevolent Foundation along with members of the Mississippi Police Benevolent Association rallied together to raise funds for a fallen brother.  Tippah County, MS Sheriff’s Deputy Dewayne Crenshaw was shot and killed while responding to a call in the early morning hours of December 3rd in Ripley, Mississippi.  Deputy Crenshaw was a decorated military veteran as well as an outstanding law enforcement officer, and the PBF wanted to make sure that the Ripley community had a way to show their support for the family of this hero who paid the ultimate sacrifice.  The PBF, MSPBA, Action News 5 in Memphis, TN and the Ripley Wal-Mart came together to hold a 15-hour fundraiser for the family of Deputy Crenshaw. This magnificent display of community support and unity took place outside of the Ripley Wal-Mart store, and Action News 5 broadcasted live coverage from the scene throughout the day.

The town of Ripley showed overwhelming support for their fallen hero and fellow citizen and as a result, the outcome was tremendous and the Police Benevolent Foundation was able to raise nearly $12,000 to help Deputy Crenshaw’s wife begin to rebuild her life.  People were encouraged to come by the Wal-Mart and make cash or check donations into Deputy Dewayne Crenshaw’s patrol car which was placed in front of the store.  Citizens began to respond early.  The caravan of concerned citizens began to hand deliver donations before 6:00 am and they did not stop until the close of business Friday night at 10:00 pm.  To date, the PBF has collected nearly $15,000 for the family of Deputy Crenshaw and additional donations continue to be made.  You can still donate by visiting any Regions Bank and making a donation to the Deputy Dewayne Crenshaw Memorial Fund, by donating online here, or you can simply text the phrase COPS CRENSHAW to 85944 to make a $10 donation which will be applied to your next cell phone bill.
